Lucan Sarsfields confirmed their place in the last eight of the Dublin Senior 'A' Hurling Championship after drawing with St Jude's in their Group 4 clash at a balmy Parnell Park last night.

With St Jude's having already secured their quarter-final berth, the onus was on Lucan from the opening whistle and they duly took the lead through a first minute free by Tommy Somers.

Danny Sutcliffe restored parity two minutes later but despite falling behind to a Fionn Ó Riain Broin free, Lucan began to dominate and were rewarded through points from Trevor Lee, John Bellew and Chris Crummey.

Two further frees by Somers stretched Sarsfields' lead to four points by the 12th minute but St Jude's responded admirably, recording a trio of successive points through Tom Devlin, Sutcliffe and Paul Maguire.

Somers' prowess from placed balls ensured Lucan kept their noses in front as the half evolved with the entertaining half supplemented by sumptuous individual scores by Lucan's Peter Kelly and Sutcliffe's third of the evening.

The half ended with a glut of scores as Devlin added another tidy point for the Tymon North men but Matthew McCaffrey's injury time point confirmed a deserved 0-13 to 0-9 lead for last year's beaten finalists.

A brace of scores by Aidan Roche within five minutes of the restart extended Lucan's advantage but with neither side convincing for prolonged periods, St Jude's replied through Devlin and Jesse Kennedy to level matters by the final whistle.
