Déise against boss pay
WATERFORD have delivered the first blow to advocates of paying inter-county managers after the matter was discussed and dismissed at last night's county board meeting.
Voicing his opposition to formalised payments, Waterford's Central Council delegate on former county board chairman insisted that none of their previous three 'outside' hurling managers, Gerald McCarthy, Justin McCarthy or Davy Fitzgerald, had ever received so-called 'under the table' monies.
"They always received only what they were legitimately entitled to,'' said Paddy Joe Ryan.
"Start paying the managers now and in time we will end up paying everyone.
"As it is we are spending too much money on our county teams.''
