Expert deadball kicking from Na Fianna's Ciaran Dignam saw the Mobhi Road side advance past northside neighbours Whitehall Colmcille and into the next round, in a game that never quite reached Championship intensity.
Dignam kicked nine frees, grabbing another three points from play and also netted Na Fianna's opening goal, in a performance he'll hope to match in later stages.
Whitehall started the game well, controlling much of the possession for the first 10 minutes.
But in those opening exchanges in which they scored a solitary point, they were guilty of wasting numerous chances which could have seen them build up an early lead and un-nerve their Division 1 counterparts.
Dignam's 12th-minute goal signalled Na Fianna's entrance into the game, and by half time they led by seven.
A Stephen Walsh-led Whitehall revival midway through the second half saw the corner forward register a goal and three points in the space of five minutes to leave the gap at eight points.
Whitehall, though, couldn't build on this one-man rescue effort and now must try to find their way through the back door. Na Fianna march on.
