Danielle is delighted to be home

Central Park has its charms. You might bump into John McEnroe.

But for Danielle Smith, nothing can compare to Páirc Naomh Uinsionn. And that feeling of being home.

"It's great to be back, and such an honour to be wearing the Vincent's jersey again," she says.

She was over in America. "It was enjoyable. I was four years away, but it's so special being back now, especially at the Championship time of year.

"I feel so fortunate to be back once more with the girls. For me, it's an honour to be playing with such a great group of people."

The club goes deep into her bones. From the first minute she walked through the doors. She has had treasured years, climbing the stairway and sprinting up through the ranks.

"We all have such wonderful memories. We had a lot of success at underage level, and winning the All-Ireland Féile was a big highlight."

She graduated onto the senior side, and contributed to much senior success as well.

"Yes, we have had some memorable times in the Dublin Senior Championship, and, hopefully, we'll have another good one this year.

"I'm just so pleased to be back in the squad. And so far things are going well."

She is a fan of the Group structure which sees eight teams in the Senior 1 Dublin Championship.

"It's great to get to play seven matches, week after week. Every game is different. The new structure is very beneficial from a squad point of view because it's a chance for every player to get a run out.

"Hopefully, we can continue to play well. Dublin camogie is a very high standard, and our main priority is to keep working hard and keep focused on each game as they come up."

Camogie is thriving at St Vincent's.

The Marino candle that the Lyons sisters lit all those years ago is burning as brightly as ever.

Last week, Páirc Naomh Uinsionn hosted four Championship camogie matches. The place was humming. To find a place in the car park, you'd have to have had the vision of Tony Hanahoe.

Danielle took in the scene. And felt blessed. To be back among her favourite Saints.
