Cuala unlikely to question Sars credentials for first county title

EVENING HERALD DUBLIN SHC 1st ROUND

Cuala v Lucan Sarsfields

Parnell Park, Today, 5.45

LUCAN have been so close to getting measured for their Championship final suits.

But their travels been more akin to the Heartbreak Hotel than the Lucan Spa.

A couple of years ago they lost to Chiaráin's by a single point in the semi-final on a dour, deep winter's afternoon in Parnell Park.

The Craobh chief, Davy Kelly, had consoling words. He told them to keep at it. And they have.

They are one of Dublin's best sides. And in Peter Kelly, they might soon have an All-Star. Last season Lucan were pipped by Boden by a point in the last eight.

In May, Cuala gave Boden a right game of it in Páirc Uí Mhurchú. Top pundit, John Henderson, was in charge last season. Now Harry Roberts is in the chair.

Injuries haven't been a kind caller to Dalkey over the months, with David Treacy's hamstring proving particularly troublesome.

Fintan O'Brien, Rob Reid, Bobby Brown, Dan Holden, Oisin Gough John Sheanon and the Schutte's have long been Cuala Colts.

Johnny McCaffrey is the Lord of Lucan. Mick May, Tommy Somers, Aidan Roche and Alan Whyte are among the Lucan Czars.

LAST YEAR -- Cuala: Didn't progress from Group. Lucan Sarsfields: Quarter-final.

LAST TIME -- Cuala: 1994. Lucan Sarsfields: Never.

NEXT: St Jude's or Faughs in quarter-final.

VERDICT: Lucan Sarsfields
