Brogan in fitness race

ALAN BROGAN faces a major race against time to be fit for this weekend's crucial showdown involving his club, St Oliver Plunkett's/Eoghan Ruadh.

The long-serving Dublin forward is an All Star shoo-in this Friday night while also being hotly tipped to be crowned Footballer of the Year but, back on the pitch, everything isn't looking so rosy.

A knee injury meant Brogan was unable to tog out for Plunkett's last Saturday when they overcame O'Toole's by ten points to reach the last-eight of the Evening Herald Dublin SFC.

They now face the 2008 All-Ireland champions, St Vincent's in a mouth-watering quarter-final at Parnell Park this Saturday (4.30), but major question marks remain over Brogan's readiness for battle.

It's understood he had a 'scope' on his knee last week to clear up some minor damage. Plunkett's will have a clearer idea about his chances of featuring in this northside derby following a further medical assessment due later today.

Vin's have their own worries with a knee injury doubt over Dublin centre-back Ger Brennan, who didn't feature in their emphatic victory over UCD last Sunday.
