Brogan desperate for return
HE has yet to kick a ball in anger for Dublin this year but Bernard Brogan isn't worried - yet.
The injured 2011 Footballer of the Year is still at least two weeks shy of a return to action after undergoing a minor operation on his knee meaning Dublin's ability to make a league semi-final (a juncture they can reach with victory over Mayo this Saturday in Castlebar) will dictate whether he sees any competitive action before their championship opener on June 3.
"I think there's enough time," Brogan told the Evening Herald. "Obviously I was away for the first three weeks in January. But when I came back, I did five really intense weeks of training to catch up with the lads.
"But I probably did too much too soon - that's when the niggles started. So I've been out with my shoulder and my knee for the last two or three weeks. But before that, I did five or six solid weeks I had a good base and the last week, I was doing aqua treadmill sessions and gym sessions so I've only been out for two weeks off the pitch.
"I'm not in too bad a place in that way. It's given me a huge hunger to get back playing. I'm mad to get back, mad to be playing a bit of football."
"Hopefully, we make the semi-final. That's my aim. And if we get a semi-final, hopefully I'll get a few minutes there."
