Brennan's deadball accuracy see Faughs earn draw
THE neighbours are still talking. That's the main thing. Faughs and St Jude's live just yards from each other. Yesterday morning they drew in Division 1 of the Dublin AHL, 0-16 to Faughs and 2-10 to St Jude's.
The result was the right one -- on and off the pitch! They were level seven times. Tymon sunshine welcomed the opening day of the Hurling League.
The hour contained many highlights. And it was decorated by a goal that was sent by express post from the Heavens.
It came from Sam Lehane, the Jude's forward, who is one of the most elegant stickmen around.
Ten minutes were gone when John Ryan delivered long. Lehane latched onto it and produced a most delicious, dainty lob that nestled in the basket.
It was 1-6 to 0-9 at the interval. Four minutes into the second half, Cormac Grogan, who had a fine match, knocked in the second goal from close distance following a pass from Tim McCarthy.
A minute later, Faughs almost had a goal themselves. Mikey Ryan struck a belter which and forced Ger McManus into making the save-of-the-day at the expense of a point.
Jude's led for much of the second half. They were four points to the good approaching the final bend, but Faughs finished on the up.
Four frees in-a-row from the impressive Ciarán Brennan tied it all up. Brennan had nine points in the wallet, all from the placed ball.
Eoin Roche worked hard at top of the left. He hit two points, while the Faughs tally completed by Paul Donohue (two), and one each from Colm Crowley and John Heneghan.
Grogan was the Jude's chief cashier on 1-5, four of the points coming from frees. Lehane had 1-2, and there was a point apiece for Stephen Larkin (f), John Ryan and the skilful Neil Mangan.
