Boden will need graft to push on past Mary's

NEITHER side will be too generous with the Maltesers. Playing Mary's is never a picnic.

Saggart steel is part of the footballing folklore in the village.

It's a repeat of the 2004 semi-final. Boden beat Mary's by a goal, 2-10 to 1-10. Conal Keaney got 2-6 (4f). He'll be sorely missed tonight as he makes the long trek back to fitness following his cruciate operation, as will he fellow dual ace, Stephen Hiney.

Last April, the Firhouse men fell to Thomas Davis in the tight confines of O'Toole Park.

The bigger Donnycarney canvas might suit them better.

Mary's got the shortest straw of all in the first round draw -- a date with the champions, Kilmacud Crokes.

Fate wasn't too kind to the Saints as Blaine Kelly had to leave the pitch injured. He was playing well at the time.

David Marshall also impressed that evening, while the likes of Denis Carrigan, Shay Walsh and Conor Broderick are hard workers off the ball, and intelligent with it.

Boden will have to earn their corn. They possess a midfield duo that appreciates the value of industry -- new Hill hero Michael Darragh Macauley and Declan O'Mahony.

They have nimble finishers in Andrew Kerin, Kenny Naughton and Danny Davey, while Darragh Nelson, Darragh Kiernan and James O'Hara are excellent defenders.

It seems like only yesterday since 'Boden held aloft the Clery Cup for the second time. It was a dream start to Liam O'Dwyer's reign in the manager's chair back in 2009. They'd love to take another step along the same path and the prize for tonight's winner is a third round clash against Fingal Ravens this Sunday in Lawless Park (4.0). The losers face Fingallians in the Relegation Championship.

Daire Walsh's Bostic hands would never let a lid fall off a Cup. The gloves are also a perfect fit for the Mary's custodian, Richie Redmond. When Richie played out the field, the locals used to say that his left foot was so good that it could peel an orange in his pocket.
