Blues U21s forced to rejig attack for semi

DAVID QUINN and Ciarán Brennan have been elevated to starting roles for Saturday's Bord Gáis Energy All-Ireland U21 HC semi-final clash with Galway in Tullamore (6.0), writes Conor McKeon.

The pair come into the Dublin attack for cruciate victims, David Treacy and Shane Stapleton, who suffered the dreaded injury within a week of each other in the build-up to Saturday's match.

The two combined to bag Dublin's second goal in the Leinster final defeat of Wexford and have been duly rewarded with starting briefs. Brennan comes in at right corner-forward while Quinn is named on the right wing of the Dublin attack.

Already this year, Quinn has an All-Ireland U21 football medal to his name after forming part of the Dublin team which beat Donegal in the final back in May. Barry O'Rorke - the other member of Richie Stakelum's team with a football medal - starts on the other flank of the hurlers attack.

Stakelum has named the same defence and midfield as that started against Wexford. Na Fianna's Martin Quilty stays at centre-back in the enforced absence of Rory O'Carroll while Cuala man, Paul Schutte, is the other player to miss out through injury.

LIAM KEARNS has thrown his hat into the ring for the vacant Galway football job. The former Limerick and Laois manager has, along with ex-Westmeath boss, Tomás ó Flatharta, been strongly linked with the post in recent days and has been installed as the bookies favourite to succeed Joe Kernan.

"Of course I would have to consider it if I was approached about a position such as the Galway job but I have not been approached and I'm not aware that I'm being considered," said Kearns.

BALLYBODEN St Enda's ladies footballers defeated county champions, Na Fianna, 0-12 to 0-9 in last night's Dublin Ladies SFC semi-final replay at Páirc Uí Mhurchú last night.
