Ballyhale bag semi-final berth

HENRY Shefflin showed no visible signs of jetlag after returning from New York yesterday morning and immediately powering Ballyhale Shamrocks into the Kilkenny SHC semi-final, writes Conor McKeon.

Shefflin bagged 1-5 by half-time as Ballyhale beat neighbours and fierce rivals, Carrickshock by 2-18 to 1-17 in Nowlan Park yesterday to set up a semi-final clash with champions, O'Loughlin Gaels.

In Cork, Carrigtwohill defied 93 years of failure to lift the county hurling championship after an epic and last-gasp 0-15 to 1-11 win over CIT.

The 100/1 outsiders at the start of the competition sealed a famous win when substitute, Seánie O'Farrell pounced in injury-time to send the East Cork village into ecstasy.

In Limerick, Na Piarsaigh upset Ahane by a whopping 11 points (2-18 to 0-13) while there were also county titles for Gleanealy in Wicklow and Celbridge in Kildare.
