Froome out of Tour after serious crash
FOUR time Tour de France winner Chris Froome (above) is out of this year's race after crashing yesterday.
Froome was taken to hospital following a crash before the start of the time trial stage in the Criterium du Dauphine.
Team Ineos confirmed in a statement that the Tour specialist had come off his bike during a reconnaissance of the day's ride and had withdrawn from the race.
A spokesperson later confirmed that he had suffered a suspected broken femur as his fellow Briton Adam Yates took the lead in the race.
The stage four time-trial was won by Team Jumbo-Visma's Wout Van Aert but Yates did enough to take the yellow jersey of the overall leader.
The Mitchelton-SCOTT rider has a four-second lead over Dylan Teuns heading into today's fifth stage.
Dan Martin is in 13th place, 1min 13secs behind Yates.
