Fog didn't dim Dubs in Tuam

REFEREE, Gus Chapman, proved himself to be a Sligo Champion.

Thick fog covered Tuam Stadium. The Tesco Homegrown Division 1 game between Galway and Dublin was in doubt.

But Gus got the show on the road, and one thing was clear through the mist - both these teams won't be far away in September. It ended in a draw. It was the right result - Galway 2-9; Dublin 1-12.

Back in 2004, the counties met in the All-Ireland final. Annette Clarke lifted the Brendan Martin Cup. And she's still at the top of her game. Her free-taking was immaculate.

The brilliant Galway forward, Edel Concannon, pounced for two first half goals.

But the Jackies still led by a point at the break, courtesy of a 17th minute goal from full-forward, Niamh McEvoy. McEvoy had a terrific match against Monaghan last week, and she was again prominent here.

The second half proved as exciting as the first. Approaching closing time, Galway edged two points ahead. Carla Rowe converted a free, and in injury-time, Sarah McCaffrey popped over a splendid equaliser.

Dublin's next game is at home to Mayo on February 22nd. That should be another tasty one.
