Faye's fire-crackers light up the arena

FAYE McCarthy of the Dublin minors has the touch of the Davy Fitzgerald about her.

Late on last week when Dublin needed a goal against Offaly in the All-Ireland Minor A Championship meeting at DCU, Kate was called to take a free.

Go for goal was the instruction of her manager, Ambrose Curry. She duly did. But on this occasion, her thundering shot went inches over the bar rather than under it.

The Dubs are lucky to have such an asset. Faye often gets on the score-sheet.

She has one of the longest puck-outs in the game. She plays for St Jude's.

Her club enjoyed a prosperous 2014. They reached their first Dublin Minor 'A' Championship final.

They have produced a cluster of Dubs, including Hannah Hegarty, who is a Captain Fantastic in more ways than one.

She is the skipper of the Dublin minor camogie team and the footballers. And it's a double-shift that she takes in her stride.
