FORMER Ireland international Steven Reid has wasted no time after landing his first coaching job just weeks after he announced his retirement.
Reid quit playing at the age of 34 following an injury-scarred season with Burnley, but Reading boss Steve Clarke, who managed Reid at West Brom, has brought in Reid as first team coach at Reading, a move which will see former Ireland U21 cap Eamonn Dolan leave his first-team post and resume duties with the Royals' academy.
"Steven Reid is someone that I came across at West Brom where he was a valued senior member of my playing staff and immediately I could see that he had the right temperament and characteristics to be a successful coach," says Clarke.
Meanwhile, their Championship rivals Burnley will give Stephen Ward and four other players involved in international duty at the end of last season more time off before reporting back for pre-season training.
"It's important they get some added time because they need to refuel mentally as much as anything, so they will come in at a later stage," says boss Sean Dyche.
