Early travellers settle into equine quarantine for Oz

A total of 19 European-trained horses have entered quarantine in Newmarket in preparation for a trip to the Spring Carnival later this year.

Among the 19 horses, the Johnny Murtagh-trained Ebor winner Mutual Regard (pictured) is the only Irish-trained runner amongst them as he now looks like following a similar route to Simenon last year in the build up to the Melbourne Cup.

Murtagh had contemplated running Mutual Regard in a Group race in Ireland or England prior to his trip but he will now target a prep race in Australia before aiming the five-year-old at the Melbourne Cup.

Other high profile names to enter quarantine are Red Cadeaux, who will be running at the meeting for the fourth successive year, Roger Varian's Ambivalent and Andrew Balding's Dandino.
