Duffy called in for Dunne
GIOVANNI Trapattoni has given Everton star Shane Duffy the nod to replace ther crocked Richard Dunne in the Ireland squad for the friendly against the Czech Republic later this month.
Dunne is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering an injury in Aston Villa's defeat to Manchester City yesterday. The FAI today confirmed that Dunne “suffered a fractured clavicle”.
The 32-year-old will be out for at least a month, possibly longer, a major concern for Trapattoni ahead of the Euro 2012 finals.
Dunne has proved to be irreplaceable in the Ireland team but he will definitely miss the February 29 clash with the Czechs.
While Trapattoni is likely to play John O'Shea alongside Sean St Ledger in central defence for that game, he has started to make plans for Dunne's absence by calling in Duffy.
