The daughter of Pivotal has acquitted herself well on each of her five starts to date, finishing out of the three only once and that was when a close fourth in a decent handicap on the grass at Newbury late last month.

Her only success to date has come over this course and distance, so she clearly acts well on the surface and she is surely a notch better than her current mark of 80. It will be disappointing if she is unable to get back to winning ways on her return to Dunstall Park.

The 32Red.com Maiden Auction Stakes appears a good opportunity for Cape Cay to open her account at the third attempt.

Ralph Beckett's filly ran a perfectly respectable race on debut at Windsor at the end of May, coming home fifth.

On her second appearance at Salisbury the following month, she came up short, pick up minor honours in third.

It is interesting she is being brought back so late in the year on the all-weather, with Beckett presumably keen for her to get her head in front before being given a winter break.

There are plenty of familiar names on show in the Ladbrokes Handicap, but perhaps the one to be on is the least exposed horse in the line-up. The Rae Guest-trained Memoria has made just the two competitive starts, building on a promising debut at Windsor, where she filled the runner-up sport behind subsequent winner Geordan Murphy, by getting off the mark at this track a fortnight ago.

She kicks off life in handicap company off a perch of 75, which looks more than workable.

Oliver Sherwood saw Deputy Dan open his account over fences at the start of the week and will be hoping Puffin Billy can emulate his stablemate at Ascot.

Last term was not a good one for the six-year-old, as he disappointed on his only start before having to undergo emergency surgery on his small intestine before Christmas. Given his problems, he will not have been pushed too hard, so considerable improvement can be expected and he should prove difficult to beat in Ascot's Sodexo Beginners' Chase.
