'Daryl will bounce back'

MICK McCarthy has backed Daryl Murphy to make an instant recovery from a miss which cost Ipswich Town valuable points in the Championship promotion race.

Murphy and former Ireland team-mate Jonathan Douglas traded goals in Ipswich's 1-1 draw with Brentford, but Town could have nabbed a win only for Murphy to miss an open goal.

"He's been remarkable this season, he's scored some unlikely goals along the way and now he's missed one you'd never expect him to miss," said McCarthy.

"It's football - that's just the way it is. I've just ruffled his hair and said 'come on, go and score the winner at Middlesbrough'. There's nowt he can do about that now."

Meanwhile, Robbie Keane began the new season in scoring form by netting for LA Galaxy in a 2-0 win over Chicago Fire.
