Daly delight at Sutcliffe recovery before final
DANNY Sutcliffe is set hand Anthony Daly a significant boost in the week of Dublin's defence of their Leinster SHC title.
The St Jude's man took part in two training sessions last weekend and the Dublin manager has revealed that Sutcliffe is likely to play at least some part on Sunday when his team take on Kilkenny in the provincial final.
The Clarema insisted he would "have a fair idea" as to what role Sutcliffe will play after training tonight but suggested the 2013 All Star wing-forward would be part of his match day panel.
"He did a bit at the weekend but only back to the consultant today now but the news is relatively good," Daly explained.
"The fracture has healed up fairly well. Tomorrow night is a big night. We'll probably play a bit of a game and see if he'll be able for it.
"I'd say he'll be in the 26. He could play some part. Whether that's a full part, tomorrow night and Friday night will decide that really. He's a huge player for us, obviously. He did a bit now, Friday and Sunday. A limited bit. He didn't take full part.
He added: "He's mad for road. He'd tell you he's fine alright. He goes full out. That's the way he plays."
"We'd have a fair idea driving home tonight whether Danny will feature or not. Probably good chance of being in the 26, whether you'd start him or not….there'll bit a lot of conference calls between Stakelum's house, Shane Martin's house, Hedgo's house and West Clare."
However, Gary Maguire will not be available after failing to recover from a broken thumb.
"Gary's out," Daly admitted. "He's only into see the specialist next Wednesday week. So he's out. Nowlan's is gone. Stephen (Chester) is sub goalie.
"Nowly's not a greenhorn at this stage. He's played in a lot of big games now at this stage. He's mad for this. He's bursting to get his chance for ages. Going by him in training, he's very sharp."
Other than Mark Schutte (shoulder), Daly reported a clean bill of health for his squad.
