Connollys all wrapped up in Blue
BIG day for the Connolly twins in Nowlan Park last Sunday.
Daniel and Luke are aged five. And they went to see the Dubs for the first time.
They were with their Dad, Sean, and their grand-father, Jimmy Maher. Sean is with Cuala. Jimmy is with Crumlin.
The boys are grand-nephews of Noel O'Donoghue, one of Dublin's finest ever referees.
Noel refereed two All-Ireland Senior Hurling finals. Galway beat Limerick in 1980. Joe Connolly was the captain.
Maybe one day, the Connolly lads will skipper the Dubs.
In 1982, Noel had the whistle again as Kilkenny beat Cork. Brian Cody was captain of the Cats. The great Christy Heffernan hit 2-3. Christy was as hard to contain as Tony Doran.
Daniel and Luke left Kilkenny with stars in their eyes - Maguire, Kelly, Schutte, Keaney, McCaffrey, Sutcliffe, Dotsy.
They'll always remember their first day watching the Blues. And one day they'll be bringing their own grand-children.
