Competitors to make splash at Bangor's season opener


OVER 350 swimmers from 60 Irish and ten overseas clubs are taking part in this weekend's Dave McCullagh Memorial Meet at the Bangor Aurora Leisure Complex in Down.

For senior swimmers, the immediate target is qualification for the World University Games in South Korea in July and the World Swimming Championships in Kazan, Russia a month later.

Chris Bryan, Fiona Doyle and Sycerika McMahon have already qualified for both the summer meets and so are resting this weekend.

Junior swimmers have qualification for the European Games, the European Youth Olympics and the World Juniors in their sights, while Paralympic swimmers are aiming for the IPC World Swimming Championships

Leinster and Ulster are expected to share the honours at next weekend's Carlton Interprovincial Badminton Championships in Baldoyle.

Ulster won the premier title last year Leinster who dominated overall winning four of the seven titles on offer. As well as premier and senior A, masters over 40 and over 50 and juvenile U17, U15 and U13 compete.
