Classy Crokes crowned Intermediate champions
ANN-MARIE McBarron captained Kilmacud Crokes to the Dublin Intermediate Championship on Friday night. She is married to the former Fermarmanagh and Crokes footballer, Liam.
It was Kilmacud's second crown. Two first half goals helped to beat Parnell's at Fingallians, 2-8 to 1-4.
The goals came from Michelle Davoren, sister of Mark, and Rachel Gallagher. It was 2-3 to 0-2 at the interval.
Dublin's Lindsay Peat led the Coolock revival. She scored a cracking goal ten minutes from time following another storming run into the score-board end.
There were four points between them eight minutes from time, but the Stillorgan girls, who had been reduced to 14 players, had enough about them to get the job done.
"I felt it was a good defensive performance," noted manager, Tommy Doran, running the side with Donal Gallagher, Mark Regan and Daphne Lamb. The Crokes physio, Donald Whoriskey, is also the physio to the Irish ladies rugby team.
"Winning this championship was one of our targets at the start of the season," revealed Tommy.
"The girls put in a huge effort in the last couple of years. Hopefully, we can build on this now in the Leinster Championship."
Parnell's are managed by Tony Fitzpatrick, Podge Hogan and Laois footballer, Colm Begley . It was their fourth losing Intermediate final. Next year it could well be fifth time lucky!
