Brown eyes Irish winger

FORMER Derry City man Stephen McLaughlin (below) is in line for a move to Southend United.

The Donegal lad joined Nottingham Forest from Derry in 2013 but he has yet to establish himself with Forest and, having impressed on loan with Southend last season as they won promotion to League One, the Shrimpers are keen to bring in McLaughlin on a long-term deal.

"Things have progressed where Stephen McLaughlin is concerned and we're now in talks about trying to sign him," said Southend boss Phil Brown, who is also tracing Irish striker Dave Mooney following his exit from Orient.

"I would love to have Stephen with us again. He has a fantastic left foot and I think he would be able to do well in League One."
