BALLYMUN KICKHAMS

A very large slice of bad luck fell on our county teams on Sunday, with both our minors and seniors falling to Donegal, despite some very solid displays by our club members. Hard luck lads and chin up. County championship is a fine consolation prize. Well done and a big thank you to Paul Curran, Anto Welby and Declan Small for their hard work on the Annual Golf Classic last Friday. The day was a great success, well done to James and Cian Burke and their team on their victory and a big thank you to all the sponsors. A full list of both winners and sponsors are on our Facebook and webpage. Thanks to all who helped out and took part on this great day. Our U15 team had a great week, with a fine win over Ratoath in a challenge, and a massive 14 point win over Vincent's ensuring Division 1 status for the coming year again. One more league game and championship now awaits the lads. Well done to Darragh Conlon, who was the outstanding player of the last week. The club will shortly announce details of the grinds to be provided by members to Leaving Cert students within the club. Please keep an eye for the finer details and for enrolment. CIVIL SERVICE

OUR Championship ambitions for 2014 came to an abrupt end on Sunday morning with defeat for both of our teams in the quarter-finals of the Junior C and E championships. The first team made a strong start in their encounter with Brendan's in Islandbridge and little separated the teams in the early exchanges, but our cause wasn't helped losing key players to injury in the first half. We conceded 3 goals by half-time leaving us 4 points behind at the interval. Despite heroic efforts, we were unable to close the margin. Meanwhile, over in Rathcoole, conceding 3 first half goals proved costly against Commercials. The home side had a 9-point lead at half-time and despite a spirited performance in the second half to narrow the gap, some late scores by Commercials gave them a comfortable victory. Well done to all our players and supporters concerned with both teams. This week we have two significant events to focus on. Our annual All-Ireland Final score forecast competition is underway and all members are asked to support this important club fundraiser. On Friday 5th September, our annual Civil Service Hurling Club Golf Society outing takes place at Palmerstown House, Johnstown, Co Kildare with the overall winner competing for the Seamus Hough trophy. The outing commences at 1.30pm with a round of golf on this top quality course, a four-course meal and a range of prizes all available for €60 to early bookers. Still a few places on the time sheet available. Weather forecast is good and it's a great start to the All-Ireland Final weekend. Anyone interested to take part should contact Gerry Butler or Martin Ryan. For more information on our club activities see our website www.civilservicehurlingclub.ie.

CLANNA GAEL FONTENOY

CONGRATULATIONS to our minor footballers, who recorded a 1-12 to 1-7 win over Naomh Mearnog in their championship semi-final game over the weekend. Well done also to our U13 footballers for their very convincing 7-9 to 2-9 win over St Vincent's in their Division 1 league fixture. Unfortunately, the very good run our Junior Ladies footballers have had in the cup came to an end with a loss to Erin's Isle in the semi-final. Off the field of play, preparations are well underway for the club's fundraising race night in Shelbourne Park on Saturday 27th September. With tickets costing just €15 per head and various add-on prizes to be won, it has the makings of a great night at the dogs. Finally, the latest draw for the Club Lotto Jackpot did not produce a winner with the following numbers: 3, 5, 10 and 30. The Jackpot of €10,000 goes forward to the following week.

CLONTARF

TEAM of the Week goes to our U13 footballers, recording great wins over St Maur's and Lucan Sarsfields. Our U10 footballers also enjoyed fine victories over Fingallians. Our U16B girls also recorded a most impressive display against Foxrock/Cabinteely. Our U13A girls won their opening cup match against a strong Skerries side on Saturday. Our U13B girls, however, came up a little short against Whitehall at home. Querrin Lillis, Áine Walsh and Katie Doyle deserve special mention for great performances on the day. Commiserations to Dublin representative Jack McCaffrey, losing out to Donegal in the All-Ireland Senior Football Semi-Final on Sunday. FAUGHS

TEAM of the Week title goes to our U12 hurlers, who won the Camaint final in Parnell Park on Saturday having played two of the best games of the series and winning both by a single point. Exciting stuff. A big well done also to U14 girls, who won their Division A Championship game v Erin's Isle. On the adult front, our seniors turned in a super performance v Lucan Sarsfields on Thursday. This was a huge team effort, but Colin Devane, Gavin Kenny and Sean McCann were magnificent in defence, while up front Stephen Fallon was the star and was responsible for supplying the ball which Ciaran Brennan sent to the net to get us over the line by a point. Junior As were unlucky to go down by a single point in their championship game v Na Fianna on Saturday. Junior Ds (Manager Jerry Hearne) had a convincing win over Naomh Mearnog on Sunday morning. Well done to all the players and management teams. Results of Golf Society outing as follows: 1st Padraig Larkin, 2nd Mick O'Boyle, 3rd Syl Byrne. Visitors prize - Tom Malone. KILMACUD CROKES

COMMISERATIONS to all involved in the All-Ireland football semis, selectors included. This will clear the way for the minor club championship: The minor B set-up continues to gather momentum as captain for the day, Mattie Hogan, lead from the front in a challenge. Ladies football is alive and well with victories in the Adult Cup Division 5 with a hammering of Naomh Barrog and in the U15 Division 1 Championship scoring 4-10 against Parnell's. A narrow loss in U14 Division 1 Championship to Na Fianna was matched by a drubbing in U14 Division 5 Championship Group A at the hands of Ballyboden St Enda's. A plucky performance in the U16 Division 5 Championship Group B was registered by our Kilmacud Crokes B girls. Saturday football returns next week on 6th September in AFL1 with the visit of Ballyboden at 6pm in the push for play-off places, whilst the second senior team face a make or break home tie with Fingallians in Silverpark. Sunday - the last remaining adult football team in championship need your support in a home semi-final v Na Fianna at 10.30am in Silver Park. Senior B hurlers recorded a fine wine over Whitehall. Having played with the wind in the first half, any concerns about a slim 4 point lead were assuaged by a commanding 2nd half performance - finishing ten points to the good. The Junior Cs had the classical championship of conceding a goal in the last minute. Rueing some missed points at the end and unlucky to end their campaign in this high-scoring match with Castleknock. Final preparations are underway for the 42nd Senior Hurling All-Ireland 7s on Saturday September 6th. Come along to Glenalbyn to witness the finals of the Senior Cup, Shield and U13 11-a-side events.

Well done to all our members who participated in the Naomh Olaf Ice Bucket challenge and a big thank you to Dublin Fire Brigade for assisting us.

O'TOOLE'S

THERE was another impressive victory for our Ladies team last Wednesday, defeating Cuala 2-13 to 2-3 in the cup semi-final in appalling weather conditions. The girls are at home for a league match this Wednesday at 7pm to Scoil Uí Chonaill, so bring your cheering voice to support them. Our adult hurlers had an important win away to St Patrick's Palmerstown on Saturday. And it was well done our junior hurlers, who had a well-earned home win over a strong Peregrines side in the Championship on Sunday beating them by a single point. This puts our lads into the quarter-finals. It was another great weekend for our U12 boys that won all their Camaint group matches, beating Commercials in the semi-final before coming out on top against Cuala in the final. It was a fantastic performance by the whole panel and a very well-deserved victory. Also it was super to see all the families and friends supporting the team. RANELAGH GAELS

THE countdown is on to the Ranelagh Gaels Race Night in Smyth's on Thursday September 18, which is already building up to be a great night. On the field, the ladies are through to the Junior D championship semi-final thanks to their great win over Craobh Chiarain last week. We're still waiting for the date for that game. The lads aren't back in action at the moment, but training continues and challenge matches are being organised. There was no winner of the Ranelagh Gaels Club Lotto Draw for August, which was held in Smyth's on Thursday night. The winners of the €50 spot prizes were Gearoid O'Flynn, Conor Harnett, Shane O'Mahony and John Moran. The next draw will take place on Thursday September 26 in Humphrey's, when the Jackpot will be an impressive €1,800. ROUND TOWER LUSK

COMMISERATIONS to Chloe Lawless, her teammates, Paul O'Hara and the management of the Dublin U16 ladies team, who lost their All-Ireland Final bid to a strong Cork side on Saturday. Well done Chloe, you had a fantastic game. Keep it going - we are all very proud of your achievements to date. Well done to Darragh Kiernan, who played with the Dublin U14 Hurling Development Squad over the weekend and despite losing to Wexford and Cork, they managed to keep Kilkenny at bay. The U12/13s travelled to Moate to take on the All-Whites in a 2-game challenge with the shield up for grabs in the Annual Towers/All-Whites Challenge game. On pitch 1, Towers went behind to 3 early goals and although they scored 3-16 the damage was done and they couldn't overturn the deficit. Adam Shields was his usual silky best at half-forward with an impressive 1-9 from play. On pitch 2, Towers ran the show from start to finish with Robbie Weldon in fine form between the sticks and a defence well-marshalled by Matthew Hennigan. However, Man of the Match was Ross Connell with 4-3 including a smashing '45' straight from the floor. Overall, Moate retained the trophy with a combined 4-point victory. As usual Moate were fantastic hosts and we were fed and watered for our return trip. Dates for your Diaries: There will be a meeting regarding our new U7 Development Squad (children born in 2007) in the Bar on Wednesday 3rd September at 8:30pm. Our Nursery will resume on Saturday 6th September from 10.45am to 12pm, catering for our 4-7 year olds. We had no winner of our Lotto Jackpot this week with numbers drawn 16-18-19-24. €50 went to B Bently, with €25 going to B Ganley and Puds. Next week's Jackpot will be €1,150.

SCOIL UI CHONAILL

THE division 4 hurling game at home v Lucan Sarsfields on Saturday was deferred due to championship. On Wednesday evening, the Ladies play O'Toole's away in the league at 6.45pm. It's a home game v St Mark's in the division 3 football game next Saturday at 6pm. Then on Sunday in Division 8 another home game this time v Portobello at 10.30am. Support very welcome for both games as we head towards the 'business end' of the season. Lots of boys and girls fixtures over the past few days and team of the week are the U15 girls, who enjoyed a very good win in their 1st game in the championship. Mid-week and weekend fixtures continue over the next few days. Your support is welcome as always for all games. The Club Nursery/Mini-Games is also back in action and new members aged 4 years and over are always welcome to drop in and enjoy the experienced coaching and enclosed facilities at 95 Clontarf Road. Details of club activities are available on Facebook and Twitter as well as in the club news section of the website. Very disappointing for both minor and senior Dublin teams following the semi-finals on Sunday. Thanks to Matt and Susan for looking after everyone in the Clubhouse after the games. Plenty of analysis and tactical discussions. Fantastic result for the Dublin Ladies as they head to an All-Ireland Final following their victory over Galway on Saturday. We extend our condolences to the O'Doherty family on their recent bereavement.

SETANTA

DROCH scéal agus dea scéal ag an deireadh seachtaine. D'éirigh linn an lámh in uachtar a fháil ar Naomh Shailbhéastar ar an Satharn sa bhaile sa cheathrú-craobh den Chraobh B Shinsear ach gortaíodh Fionntán go dona sa chéad leath agus tógadh go dtí an ospididéal é. Bhíomar seacht gcúilín siar cúig nóiméad isteach sa tarna leath ach ghnóthaigh Shane cúilín gleoite ag an deireadh chun bua stairiúil a bhaint amach. Ni raibh Setanta riamh sa leath-chraobh den chomórtas seo. Beidh na mionúr ag imirt in aghaidh Naomh Bríd ar an Domhnach seo chugainn sa bhaile sa Chraobh B ag 10.15am agus tá súil againn go mbeidh slua mór ann ag tacú linn. Comhbhrón le Philly McMahon agus na Dubs tar éis droch-lá ar an Domhnach i bPáirc an Chrócaigh. Beimid ar ais an bhliain seo chugainn. Tá súil againn go dtiocfaidh biseach ar Fionntán go luath.

ST FINIAN'S, SWORDS

THE big news this week is the outcome from the Special General Meeting, held last Thursday night, to discuss the possibility of embarking on a development program to deliver an all-weather, floodlit pitch. The meeting approved the commencement of discussions with the board and management of Loreto School, with a view to agreeing the delivery of a new pitch facility in the grounds of the school. A working group was formed on the night, to examine what is required to achieve this significant development. Expect to hear much more on this in the coming weeks and months. There was disappointment on the pitch for the Dublin senior and minor footballers at the weekend, however there was success elsewhere for Dublin players when the Dublin U16 hurlers won the Arrabawn tournament for the first time ever. St Finian's GAA Club was represented on the county team by Conor Lennon. We send huge congratulations to Conor on this fine achievement. The Dublin senior ladies footballers enjoyed success in the semi-final of the All-Ireland Championship, beating Galway to secure a place in the All-Ireland Final, where they will face either Armagh or Cork on September 28th. Congratulations to all the girls in blue. Our own Gaelic for Mothers team took part in a blitz in Kinnegad over the weekend and, despite being without star player Anne O'Connor, great performances and lots of fun were the order of the day. We are raffling our two season tickets for the All-Ireland hurling and football finals. Make sure all your Tipperary, Kilkenny, Kerry and Donegal relatives are in the draw. Tickets are available from team mentors, committee members and through the club office: stfiniansgaaclubswords@gmail.com or 01-8132656. The Club Lotto Jackpot was €7,300 and the numbers drawn were 2-6-19-20. There was no Jackpot winner.

Hundreds of photographs and scores of newspaper reports from the past 'hundred years or so' help to make this book a must-read for club members, friends, relatives, residents of the general area and anyone interested in how a small GAA club can become such an integral part of the community it lives in and from. The book celebrates the story of the club from its hesitant beginnings in 1906 to the successful and vibrant organisation it is today. The numerous achievements of the club on the field and off the field are celebrated. The many contributions made by the club to the villages of Saggart, Rathcoole and Brittas over the past century are highlighted, as is the part played by individuals, families and businesses of these three villages in sustaining the club for over a century. St Mary's links with Commercials Hurling Club and St Finian's GAA Club also feature. Price: €20. Lotto numbers drawn this week 7-22-27-28. TWO great results on the field of play last week. First up our U14 girls had a super win over Castleknock in the Division 2 championship, winning by 4-10 to 2-06. Big thank you to our Golf Society, who donated the sum of €325 to the juvenile section of the club, which will be used to purchase hurls for our young stars. There was no winner in our Club Lotto. Numbers drawn out were 9-16-21. Next week's Jackpot will be in excess of €150. Tickets cost €2 each or 3 for €5.
