BALLYMUN KICKHAMS

THIS week's Hero of the Week is Zach Farrell. He was the outstanding player for our U11s in a terrific game of football in Ballyboughal, and that was some achievement, because the whole team were outstanding. Zach certainly will have a future in blue and navy if he keeps up this form. Comhghairdeas and take a bow Zach Farrell, laoch na seachtaine. But this was just one of a string of brilliant wins for the juvenile section. Our U13s turned a 9 point half-time deficit into a 7 point victory over Clanna Gael Fontenoy with Deano and Woody on top form. Our U15s had a hard-fought win over Brigid's, with Eoghan McCartan, David Drumgoole, Eamon Hill, Jason Keating and Jordan Bell exceptional. The lads now have gym work at 7pm on Tuesday to prepare for Thomas Davis next week. Our U16s maintained their 100% record with a great team performance to get the win, with Ryan Maher, Ryan Graydon, Conal Cullen and Andrew McCaul all hitting form, which is encouraging as they now go to Ballyboden next Saturday. A big well done to our minor A with a win over Raheny. Even short of 4 county players, and 5 lads who played Saturday. Best were Elliot Craig and Arron Elliot in midfield, and Colm Hulton and Glenn Doyle class up front. Our Nursery is on next Saturday from 9.30am. All children over the age of 3 welcome. For more information call Shane on 086-1600042. Membership for 2015 is now due to be paid. Please see your designated team mentor or any member of the executive committee. Finally, there are club merchandise items for sale, and can be ordered at bkmerchandise@live.com and can be viewed on our social media. You can find the links to follow us at Facebook/Twitter on http://www.ballymunkickhams.com.

CIVIL SERVICE

WE had fine spring conditions in Islandbridge for our first day of competitive hurling on Sunday, when we fielded two teams in the first round of 2015 Cup competitions. Unfortunately, our first team were beaten by St Kevin's in the Fág a Bealach Cup and our second team by Lucan Sarsfields in the Eddie Barron Shield. It was a similar pattern in both games, with the visitors building up a strong half-time lead and our second half comeback was not enough to bridge the gap. The Chairman, Conor Bracken, saw a lot of positives in both performances and the achievement of fielding two teams. Training continues this week. All players are asked to be on the pitch for 7pm on Wednesday. The new committee appointed at the AGM had its first meeting on 11th February. The priority issue is the challenge of managing two teams and how to address the pressures of an ageing squad and the loss of some of our more experienced players, who have moved out of the city. Our international squad is all set to travel to Brussels for a game on Saturday 21st February. Hopefully all will get there and back safely. Full report in these notes next week.

CLANN MHUIRE

THE 2015 season is well under way. 1st team played St Margaret's in their first Joy Cup match of the season. The match ended in a draw on a scoreline of Clann Mhuire 2-5, St Margaret's 1-8. St Peter's minors had a spirited comeback against Naomh Barrog in their first league match of the season. A Jack McGrane goal ensured the minors came away with a point from the fixture. The final result was St Peter's 1-18, Naomh Barrog 5-6. St Peter's U15s had a 2 point win over Cuala. After 3 games they are sitting nicely on the top of league. St Peter U13s had a comprehensive win over Lucan Sarsfields on Saturday. Our U11s had an excellent win over St Mark's at home on Saturday morning. Oisin Allen had an excellent game in defence, while there were some exceptional scores from Oisin Doyle, Dara Allen, Thomas Tiernan, Luke Wilson, Ben Rogers and Finn Harmon. Our U10s also had a good win over Parnell's. While our U8s made the short journey to Swords to face Fingallians. They had a draw match in the first game and lost the second by 4 points. It was great to see the team displaying excellent skills. Make sure to check the Evening Herald on Tuesday and our website www.clannmhuire.ie for fixtures and results for the coming week. GARDA/WESTMANSTOWN GAELS

VERY proud occasion for Garda/Westmanstown Gaels with the launch of our strategic plan last Monday evening at Westmanstown Sports Centre. Chairman John Kissane welcomed Uachtaran CLG Liam O Neill, Garda Commissioner Noirin O'Sullivan, Dublin Football Manager Jim Gavin, Ulster Council President Martin McAviney and Dublin County Secretary John Costello, who launched the plan. The plan will be the basis for the future development of our club for the next number of years. The season kicked off last Sunday, but only one of the three fixtures scheduled went ahead, with juniors going down in the opening Parsons Cup tie away to St Margaret's 3-11 to 1-8. The intermediates' Loving Cup tie away to Clanna Gael has been rescheduled for this Tuesday night 17th February. Our first-ever minor fixture unfortunately didn't take place as fixed with Ballyboden conceding. Next fixture is away to Naomh Barrog on Sunday March 1st. Next Sunday we have two home league fixtures at Westmanstown with the intermediates hosting Trinity Gaels at 10.30am in Division 3 and the juniors face St Margaret's in Division 7 at 12pm. Ladies had a good run out in a challenge game last Saturday against Celbridge and training continues on Mondays and Wednesdays at 7pm and on Saturday morning at 8am. This week saw the kids of Garda/Westmanstown Gaels take to the field at all ages. Our U8 boys travelled to Thomas Davis for their first away games of 2015 and both teams played exceptionally well, performing many of the skills they have learned in their training sessions. The U9 boys played at home against Geraldine P Morans and put in a strong performance, showing excellent support for each other throughout the game. The U11s also played at home against Round Towers of Lusk, coming out on top with great display of teamwork.

WELL done Mikey Carton and the Dublin hurlers on their great win on Sunday. Mikey had, as usual, an outstanding game. And our U14s demonstrated the way to play well and win. Our plucky U13s took on locals Parnell's and they realised their full potential with an outstanding victory. Whether it was our U9s & 10s playing Man-O-War, there were great games played by our younger teams as well, once more proving that O'Toole's is a club for the future. Our message; 'well done' to all, 'keep up the good work'. New players are always welcome in the safe, friendly confines of O'Toole's. ST PATRICK'S, DONABATE

WHAT could you do with an extra €9,000 in your pocket? That's what our Lotto Jackpot will be on Friday. The numbers drawn last week were 16-20-21-31. The five €20 winners were Patty Duignan, Pat McCaffrey, Stewart O'Neill, Aisling Stenson and Kevin Duignan. Happy Birthday to Liz - our Lotto Queen. Thanks for all you. There was a great buzz in the club this week with the news that Alex Ryan made the Dublin Minor Squad. That buzz increased with the news yesterday of Dublin's 4-22 to 1-5 victory over Westmeath. Well done to all the girls in blue. That wasn't the only excitement in the village though, as we had a visit from Donal Og Cusack on Sunday morning. He led a hurling session with both our adult teams, but there was a suspicious amount of juveniles who simply 'happened' to be down at the clubhouse. Who could blame them. It was a great morning and we're very grateful to Donal for taking the time to come out. Still won't be cheering for Cork though (sorry). Elsewhere in the club, a great evening was had at our Juvenile Disco. The monies raised from this one went to the Donabate Portrane Summer Festival Project, which we hope will be a wonderful success. Thanks to everyone who helped out - much appreciated. Speaking of gratitude, we held our Interactive Workshop on Monday. Our thanks go to Bruce Harley - Facilitate Extraordinaire - and his team who oversaw the evening. Thanks also to those attended; we're going through all the different ideas and strategies proposed and will be in touch. On the pitch, we had wins for our U16 boys against Ballinteer St John's 5-8 to 3-5, for our U10 boys against Raheny and for our U18 lads away to Oliver Plunkett's.
