BALLYMUN KICKHAMS

OUR heroes of the week this week are our U15 team. Class acts one and all. Though they bowed out of Championship on Sunday, they held their heads high, and battled manfully until the end. What's unusual about them is that only a couple of years ago, these lads were struggling in Division Three, but have secured their Division One status yet again for the coming season. Such improvement, such commitment. Their defeat was mostly through pure bad luck, a day where nothing went right, and some decisions didn't go their way. All the while, the team was pushed on by Eamon Hill, Cian Fagan and Ryan Kelly. Keep the heads high lads, you're our heroes of the week. Our U11s had a couple of great games again this week against Margaret's, with Alex Matthews and Craig Murray exceptional. Another improving team. Congrats to our minor team, who defeated a plucky Raheny to regain their form in the Minor Championship. Best for Ballymun was Paddy Small up front and Evan Comerford between the sticks. Next up is away to Castleknock on the 12th October. Hard luck to Denise Masterson, and the rest of the Dublin Ladies team on their heart-breaking defeat to Cork in the All-Ireland final, so near yet so far. Our intermediates play a title decider in Pairc Ciceam against Good Counsel at 5pm on Saturday 4th October, which is handy as it follows quickly our senior footballers playing against Plunkett's in Parnell Park at 3.30pm. Exciting weekend for our two top adult teams. The much-awaited Leaving Cert grinds have been rolled out, and all details are up on our forum. For more info on this, or any other club gossip, go to our website http://www.ballymunkickhams.com and on our Facebook page or Twitter @BallymunGAA.

CASTLEKNOCK

WELL done to the ladies footballers performed brilliantly in the All-Ireland Junior 7s at the weekend. They were extremely unlucky to fall at the final hurdle for the second year in a row. The Intermediate Football Championship Semi-Final takes place this Friday night against Clanna Gael in Parnell Park. Throw-in is at 8.15pm, and loads of support is needed. Once again both U15 boys' football teams were successful in their Championship games on Sunday. The first team overcame Raheny by 9 points in Porterstown to clinch a place in the semi-final. The second team also won by the same margin in a brilliant game against local rivals Lucan Sarsfields to book their place in the final. Further details of dates/times etc of next matches will be posted on the website. Congratulations to the U14 girls, who had a great day at Croke Park in their role as ball girls for the All-Ireland Ladies Football Final. It's just a shame the result didn't go Dublin's way. The nursery is on every Saturday morning at 10am in Tír Na nÓg, with the club shop also open at the same time. All new families and players are welcome. Please continue to send in all tax donation and bond scheme forms for the Clubhouse Fund, as we look to push on after the awarding of the sports capital grant recently. There was no winner of the Lotto Jackpot, which now stands at €4,600.

CIVIL SERVICE

OUR first team secured an important victory over St Jude's in our AHL6 clash on Sunday morning in Islandbridge, where summer-like conditions made for a fast-moving game but with tight marking and a strict referee, most scores came from frees. Although the visitors started strongly, we marked tightly and defended well. We gradually picked up the scores and, thanks to a Rob Griffin goal coming at the end of a well-worked attack, we had a 5 point lead at half-time. Jude's started strongly again in the second half and reduced the deficit to 2 points but were punished for conceding frees in scoring range. Some frantic defence was required in the closing stages as the visitors came in search of goals, but Ray Ryan kept a clean sheet and we closed out the victory by 1-12 to 0-9. Well done to all who took part. No fixtures this weekend for the second team, but we still have a few AHL8 fixtures to finish our season so we can expect to be in action on week-ending 12th October. Off the field, the committee confirmed the results of our recent All-Ireland Score Predictions competition on the drawn game, which brought victory to our own Cat with Conor McCarthy winning and second place going to Susan Nic Aonghusa. Many thanks to all who supported this fundraiser. For more information on our club activities see our website www.civilservicehurlingclub.ie.

CLANNA GAEL FONTENOY

THE Play to Stay Super Games Centre initiative got off to a flying start on Friday evening at the club with a strong turnout of 12-16 year old footballers, all eager for action in competitive games. A good proportion of these were boys who had either stopped playing or had never started, which is very significant as these are the primary target for this particular programme. That said, existing players are also very welcome. The selection of Clanns is unique in that it's the only one in Dublin and is actually the only club selected - all other centres are schools based. So our club looks forward to welcoming participants from all over the city each Friday evening, starting at 6.30pm, in the period up to Christmas. Further information is available at www.gaa.ie/playtostay and information about free registration to participate at Clanna Gael Fontenoy is available from orlaith.curran2@mail.dcu.ie or 087-2124370. There was a great turnout on Saturday night, straight after the hurling final replay, for the club's Night at the Dogs at Shelbourne Park. Many thanks to all who supported this fundraiser - the businesses who advertised, those who donated prizes and those who bought tickets. Congratulations to those who won prizes and to those who backed the winners on the track.

NAOMH MAUR

WELL done to all who supported the Dublin Ladies. Unfortunately, the Rebels won using their experience. Great achievement this year on the Ladies football side with Olivia Leonard (Dublin Ladies), Naomi Clare (Dublin Minors) and Niamh Carthy (Dublin U16s) all winners of Leinster medals. Maur's/O'Dwyers/Skerries U16 Camogie team had a win over St Oliver Plunkett's/Eoghan Ruadh in the Championship, scoring 2-8 to 1-9. Our U15 footballers had a good win over Ballinteer St John's on Saturday in the Championship with a score of 5-9 to 2-9. Our U13 boys' footballers won a very good game on Saturday away to Na Fianna. Congratulations to the U13 Camogie team on coming top of the Championship group after their win against Lucan Sarsfields. Our U11 squad were the recipients of a lovely new set of jerseys which were presented to the team by sponsor Peter Monks. This squad of players have worked very hard over the last few seasons and are always great ambassadors for the club. They had a good win in hurling against St Finbarr's away on Saturday. Our U10 Camogie team were absolutely superb in their blitz on Saturday. They won all three games showing great skills throughout. Their first game was against Ballyboden 'A' and they won by 4 points. Secondly, they played Ballyboden 'B' and won by 19 points. Finally they played St Jude's and won by 9 points. Another fine display from both U9 Camogie teams, who had great wins over Na Fianna and Raheny. Well done to St Maur's U7s boys, who were very successful on Saturday against Lusk.

NAOMH MEARNOG

ON Sunday morning, we had 2 great Championship wins for our young footballers. At home, our minors entertained St Pat's of Donabate. After a tough encounter, they emerged victorious. Our U15 footballers travelled to Ballymun to play their highly-rated team. After putting on one of their best displays ever, they had a very impressive win. Well done to all the lads and their managers. Next Saturday sees the replay of the Senior Football Championship game against Cuala. The game takes place at home at 5pm. On Sunday morning at 11am in Parnell Park, our U15 hurlers take the stage in the Championship Final against Raheny. Also on Sunday morning, our senior camogie girls have Championship action at home to Naomh Bríd at 11am. We need support for all our teams. So please come along. A sincere thank you to all who helped run the All-Ireland Ladies 7s on Saturday. With almost 100 teams, this is a massive undertaking and it ran like clockwork. A special word of congratulations to our own team who were outstanding on the day. They qualified out of their group in first place and were only beaten by a point in the semi-final by the eventual winners. There are still some membership fees that remain unpaid. Would those concerned please deal with this matter urgently? We wish to remind all teams that priority on the all-weather pitch will be given to teams still involved in serious competition. Our Club Lotto Fund continues to grow with the draw taking place every Sunday night. We ask all of you to support this important aspect of club revenue.

NAOMH OLAF

O'TOOLE'S

CONGRATULATIONS to our senior hurlers on reaching the quarter-finals of the Championship following a nail-biting, pacey game in Parnell Park last Friday evening. In the end our lads cemented their place in the next round with a whopping 10 points win over Lucan Sarsfields. Well done our U15 footballers that had a narrow but well deserved 1 point win away to a strong St Brigid's side in the "B" Championship quarter-final game on Sunday. The lads gave their best shot and in the end it paid dividends. There was a tremendous display of football by our ladies in the All-Ireland Sevens on Saturday. Having played a draw in the semi-final, we were beaten in a free kick shoot-out. For such a young team this augurs well for the future of O'Toole's ladies football. Our adult girls also had a good win over Portobello in the league on Wednesday night. There was a significant improvement shown by our little U8 hurlers over the weekend as they faced Finian's at home. They displayed great solidity and spirit proving that teamwork goes a long way to winning. A big 'thanks' to Trinity Gaels for hosting a super U9 Hurling Blitz on Saturday morning. This Saturday night in our comfortable, friendly lounge for your entertainment it's the fab Mr 'Carl Philips'. Club members were saddened to hear of the passing of former O'Toole's player Johnny Jones following a bravely-fought illness. There was no winner of our weekly Club Lotto. The numbers drawn were 3, 11, 13 & 14. This Thursday, the Jackpot in our live draw will be €4,000, so don't be disappointed. Play today.

PARNELL'S

HARD luck to Lindsay Peat and the Dublin Ladies on their heart-breaking loss to Cork in the All-Ireland Final. Congratulations to Lindsey on her two fantastic goals and well done all on a great performance this year. Well done to the U13 footballers on a thrilling win over Erin go Bragh, making it 12 wins from 12 with a great team performance and marvellous support. Victory in our last game will bring the title to Coolock. Senior ladies played 3 hard games in All Ireland 7s. Unfortunately, just hadn't got the fire to compete but a great opportunity for the young players who came to play with the senior ladies. Podge and Tony are really proud of everyone. Well done to the junior ladies who won their group, 3 out of 3, only to miss out in quarter-finals due to tired legs after two hours of football. Intermediate men's footballers play St Margaret's on Saturday in Chanel. Throw-in at 4pm. On Sunday, junior men face Naomh Barrog in Pairc Barrog at 3pm. Juvenile fixtures are available on our Facebook page. Lotto results for Monday September 22nd were 2, 3, 4 & 18 and the bonus was 10. There was no winner and 2 people had 3 numbers. Jackpot for September 29th €4,400. Our Tribute Night is back Bank Holiday Sunday October 24th with our favourite compare Gary Meade, featuring the music of Garth Brooks, Dusty Springfield Roy Orbison and many more. Congratulations to U16 footballers who beat Kilmacud Crokes A team in the U16 Cup on Saturday 4-8 to 3-6. There were so many good performances but Cian Lumsden was our Man of the Match. Great result against a very strong Kilmacud team. Also, a great win in the Championship for our minors. They beat Fingal Ravens 0-18 to 0-7.

RAHENY

SUNDAY saw Dublin in the Senior Ladies All-Ireland Final with our Siobhan Woods. The first-half Dublin were on fire but lost a little momentum in the second-half, Cork winning by a point. A great game but not so good result for us. Well done to our U10 girls, who gave a brilliant display of football and came out victorious over Castleknock. Staying with the girls and moving up in age, U12 camogie had a great win over Beann Eadair on Saturday and on Sunday our U13 Camogie Division 1 played against a very strong Kilmacud Crokes. A fantastic game very close right to the end, Raheny winning by a point. Minor A team played on Sunday morning away to Ballymun. They fought hard, but Ballymun had the edge, 4-12 to 3-08. Our annual school blitz took place on Friday evening in the park, our feeder schools playing against each other (junior and senior infants). We had a massive 182 children compete. Thank you to Seamus Dunne for all his work organising this and also to all who helped out on the night. Our Ogra is really growing in numbers. We had a fantastic 110 children on Saturday training with us. Again this would not be possible without the help of all the parents willing to give up their time. Thank you to all involved. A belated happy birthday to Kevin Leech on his recent 21st, a major oversight on my behalf. GAA4MAs is back on Sunday from 8-9. All welcome, no experience necessary and we will have a guest coach this week. If you have any information to be included in the club notes please forward it to pro.raheny.dublin@gaa.ie no later than 8pm on Sunday night.

RANELAGH GAELS

THE ladies team's season came to a close this week. On Wednesday, they were narrowly defeated in their cup semi-final by St James Gaels. At the weekend, the girls represented the club in the All-Ireland Sevens tournament held by the Naomh Mearnog and Sylvester's clubs in North Dublin. The Gaels went all the way to the last four of the shield competition, eventually being beaten by Kilcock from Kildare. Well done to everyone involved and for the efforts put in throughout the entire season. The men's team are in action this Sunday, October 5th, hosting Kilmacud Crokes at Bushy Park at 11am. This is the last game of the league with the lads still in the hunt for a promotion play-off spot so all support encouraged on the day. Last week saw the latest Club Lotto draw take place. The numbers drawn were 1, 8, 11 and 21. There was no Jackpot winner. The following each received €50 runner up prizes: K Grimes, A Coyne, S O'Shea & S Gilmartin. The next draw will take place on October 30th. You can buy your tickets in The Tap House, Smyth's, Humphreys and Birchalls or by clicking on www.locallotto.ie. ROBERT EMMET'S

OUR nursery team, the future U8s, won well yesterday in their only second-ever match. Curtis Nolan, Sean Connors and Brendan Mc Gee got some great scores. Our U8 team were beaten by two points in a friendly against a St James Gaels mix of U10s & 11s. Two great teams for the future. Our U10 team beat a very good St Mark's team with a brilliant team display in the second half. Great scores from Ben O'Reilly and David Yeates. Our juvenile section is going from strength to strength with some excellent talent coming through. Never have we had such a volume of young players. If you are interested in managing a team or helping out in anyway with our juvenile section for 2015 please talk to Joe Kearney or Siobhan Malone. Coaching courses are available to anyone interested in taking part. Tonight is the close of our club membership payments for 2014. Bingo continues each Monday night at 8.30pm with a book costing €10. Our U13s put on a spellbinding display, which saw us put the Castleknock B side to the sword with a (8-21) to (0-2) win in Lusk on Saturday. Fantastic scores from Davison Okosun, Ciaran McCann and Ross Connell, to name but a few, saw this game put well beyond doubt. Fantastic performances also from Dean Grimes, Shane Clare and Conor Bohan proved the difference in keeping the opposition to 2 points. But Man of the Match went to Eoghan O'Neill who put in a masterclass display. Disappointment for our U15s, who lost to St Anne's in the quarter-final of the 'B' Football Shield. Hard luck lads. Minors: Na Fianna (2-8) v Round Towers (1-17). We travelled to play table-toppers Na Fianna for our 2nd Championship match. It was a must-win match and we duly delivered. Leading by 6 points at half-time, the second half was nip and tuck, but we finished up deserved winners in the end.

SCOIL UI CHONAILL
