CIVIL SERVICE

WE FELT the heat in Islandbridge last week and it wasn't just the warm temperatures. The final round of games in the group phase of the junior championship gave us a stark reminder of the pace, intensity and standard we need to achieve if we are to progress through the knock-out phase. Kilmacud Crokes got straight out of the blocks in our JHC C fixture on Tuesday, established an early lead and eventually beat us by 4-13 to 1-8. Despite early dominance by the visitors, we probably had the majority of possession and scoring chances in the second half but while the visitors were clinical in converting their scoring chances, we were left at full time to regret missed opportunities. On Thursday, we started as though we expected to be beaten by JHC E table-toppers Lucan Sarsfields who raced into an early lead, but as the game progressed we fought our way back into contention going down in the end by a respectable 3-13 to 3-9. The good news is that both teams still go through to the quarter finals but we have a lot to do. Every player has been asked to give their best effort over the next 3 weeks in their efforts at training and personal fitness. This week both teams are in league action. Our first team takes on Kilmacud Crokes again in AHL6 on Tuesday 22nd July in Islandbridge and our second team plays St Peregrines in Blakestown on Wednesday 23rd July. Both games throw in at 7.15pm. Players need to confirm availability and be at the correct venue in plenty of time for pre-game preparations. For more information on our club activities see our websitewww.civilservicehurlingclub.ie.

Off the field of play, the following lotto numbers drawn for a jackpot of €10,000 did not produce a winner: 1, 15, 16 and 26.
