Back to back wins the key for Wigan says McClean

Wigan

JAMES McClean believes that his Wigan side can avoid a drop into the third tier - but only if they can string some wins together, writes Aidan Fitzmaurice.

Wigan, in action against an in-form Norwich City tonight, had a morale-boosting win away to fellow strugglers Blackpool last weekend, McClean scoring once to become the club's top scorer this season.

But as the side are nine points away from safety, the former Derry City man knows that back-to-back wins must happen soon if they are to stay in the division.

"That's been the problem all season. Whenever we've won a game we've not been able to follow it up with another," says McClean.

"It's crucial now we take this performance into Norwich, which is another massive game for us. They're in great form at the moment, and we're under no illusions, it will be a very tough game.

"The Blackpool win will have given us a bit of confidence, and we'll be aiming for back-to-back wins for the first time in a long time. That game was crucial, we knew if we'd lost we would have been counted out of it."
