Our children suffer as we work harder
Our children are suffering as parents work longer hours and suffer more work stress. New research shows that parents working under these conditions are less likely to form strong emotional bonds with their children.
Sadly, it comes as no surprise.
The struggle to meet education and housing bills is putting parents under enormous strain and it is no wonder this leads to conflict in families with children feeling the knock-on effects.
Consumerism is adding to the financial burden as parents try to meet demands from the children themselves. Parents overburdened with financial and work concerns cannot give calm attention to their children and properly meet their emotional needs.
We should take heed of the Growing Up In Ireland Study to make sure there is a proper work-life balance for both adults and children.
