Letters: Stay in Ireland for Saint Patrick’s Day

We will never grow as a country and a free independent nation if we continue these Paddywhackery/gombeen trips to America every Saint Patrick's Day, tipping our hats to the Yanks as our Taoiseach presents a shamrock to the president in the White House while we suffer at home.

It is nothing less than national betrayal by Irish politicians when they leave the country on its national holiday. No matter if they pay their own fare, this doesn't let them off the hook. They are obligated to the Irish voters who elect them to be in Ireland on March 17 to review the parades.

Our leaders have forgotten where their bread is buttered.

How many US politicians leave America on July 4 or French politicians leave France on Bastille Day, July 14, and expect to be re-elected when they come home.
