I won’t be flushing my cash into Concert Hall

Three weeks ago, The National Concert Hall made the news with the revelation that our cash-strapped centre of culture, which receives €2.3m in funding from the taxpayer each year, was spending an eye-watering €270k on refurbishing its ladies’ toilets.
So how interesting it was to log on to their website a few days ago to purchase some concert tickets and find that, having done so, a pop-up menu appears asking if you want to donate money to the NCH.

The message explains that ticket prices come nowhere near to covering the cost of running the Concert Hall, with the additional sum suggested being 10pc of the cost of your tickets.

To which my simple answer was no.

After all, if I wanted to flush my hard-earned cash down a toilet, I’d have bought shares in Anglo Irish Bank...
