Eminem's misogynistic lyrics show why brainless rap should be banned

I used to make arguments for rappers who used offensive language.

When my friends would say that they wouldn't allow their children to listen to Snoop Dogg or let them view all the videos that had semi-clad women shaking their butts, I thought they were being prudish and old-fashioned.

But as the years have gone by, there is nothing more I despise than these sexist demeaning videos with misogynistic lyrics (The thing I despise second is how I made excuses for these brainless idiots).

Eminem's new song is definitely in the brainless category. But there is a new low to his lyrics. Have a read of the following: "B**ch, I'll punch Lana Del Rey right in the face twice, like Ray Rice in broad daylight in the plain sight of the elevator surveillance/'Til her head is banging on the railing, then celebrate with the Ravens."

To translate - Eminem is saying that he would like to take the singer Lana Del Ray and punch her in the face twice. He would like to do this in the manner of Ray Rice.

Rice is an NFL sports star who was caught on CCTV delivering a punch to his girlfriend's (now wife's) face and knocking her out.

Then he dragged her limp body out of the lift and left her on the floor until a passer-by came up to them.

I cannot understand why Eminem has written these lyrics.

The fact that he wants his millions of fans to sing along to this, to sing that they too would like to punch this woman until she passed out, is incomprehensible.

No amount of talking will ever persuade me to accept this music. Eminem should be hauled up by his fans, the authorities and anyone who has any sort of intelligence, and his music should be banned.

There is too much domestic violence in the world for an influential artist to be making light of it.
