Editorial: Why is there no action on Headshops?

The inaction of the Government in relation to Headshops is staggering given the level of public disquiet over them.

While the Minister for Health has been enjoying herself in New Zealand, parents here have become increasingly terrified about the effects of these establishments and products on their children.

Why isn't the Minister and her department doing something right now to save young people from dangerous products?

The idea that we must wait until June for certain items to be banned is clearly absurd and flies in the face of common sense.

No law-abiding citizen will advocate attacks on Headshops, with windows being broken in the most recent incident.

But Mary Harney and the other authorities must understand that people are frightened about the effects of the products sold in Headshops on our youth and our communities.
