SERIOUS concern is growing for the health of our children prior to the return to school next week as swine flu cases soar once again.
As of December 30, some 36 people have been admitted to intensive care in this country, while across the water there have been almost as many deaths from the virus recently.
Last year, at this time, the country was on high alert and swine flu accounted for 98pc of flu cases here. Now, once again, the hospitals are expressing fears and the HSE is worried too.
We must not let our guard down. The cleansing regimes and restrictions already introduced should now be doubly reinforced to preempt grave consequences of an outbreak in schools, not to mention the devastating impact on businesses already reeling from the chaos of the Budget and the Big Freeze.
