Editorial: Road rage tragedy is a new low
This week has seen the tragic death of a dad following the first road rage fatality in the history of the State. It is now nearly one week since Englishman Raymond Bates (49) was beaten in an incident which happened at around 7.30pm last Sunday evening. Mr Bates died at Beaumont Hospital on Thursday night.
Of course, the full details of what happened on that fateful night leading up to the attack have yet to come out.
They will no doubt emerge in the fullness of time.
But the death of Mr Bates represents a new low in Irish society, and people have been left feeling very shocked.
Gardai have said that there were a number of people in the area at the time of the incident and they are being urged to come forward.
Our sympathies go out to the victim's heartbroken family and friends today.
