Editorial: Our hearts go out to air crash victims
THE aircraft that crashed at Cork Airport was an appalling tragedy that has left six families mourning the loss of a loved one today.
Our hearts go out to all those affected, including the survivors of the crash, who will have been left very shaken by the incident.
The number of fatalities could have been higher had it not been for the quick response of the emergency services at the scene yesterday morning. Both the fire crew and paramedics working on the ground deserve great credit for their life-saving efforts.
Over the coming weeks and months, the authorities will probe just what caused the tiny 19-seater craft to hit the ground and flip on to its back before bursting into flames. This is important to prevent future tragedies of a similar nature.
But today our thoughts are with the victims and their families in their suffering.
