Editorial: No one is safe as gun law reigns

Weeks of gun warfare on the streets of Dublin have ensured this summer is one of the bloodiest in living memory. There have been four murders in the last month and five people wounded in gun attacks -- including innocent customers in a Fairview pub.

As our story today says, flying bullets do not discriminate between the totally innocent and those deemed guilty by rivals when fired in an often drug-hyped frenzy.

The fear is that more deaths will follow, as the shootings leave a legacy of hatred.

It is a shocking state of affairs that gunmen feel free to strike indiscriminately in crowded public areas.

It means that none of us are truly safe.

Whether it be stronger anti-gang legislation or more resources allocated, more must be done to bring to account the people engaged in these despicable acts.
