Editorial: How we will miss icon of GAA Micheal

WE will miss the wit, the intelligence, the vivid descriptions and the passion. Nobody can replace the unique commentary and style of the legendary Micheal O Muircheartaigh -- the man described as one part commentator and two parts seanachai.

It was not just his knowledge of Gaelic games as sports, but his vast store of personal history and anecdotes for each and every player on the pitch which made his commentaries so extraordinary.

Lyrical, bilingual descriptions of the action brought brilliant images of the game to radio listeners in a way that made them feel they were actually in the stands watching the match themselves.

His witty style appealed across the board and not just to passionate GAA fans.

Micheal's commentaries spanned several generations and became part of the fabric of the GAA.

Never was it more true to say: "Ní bheidh a leithéid ann arís."
