Editorial: Fear and intimidation in our city
OUR story today about the attempt to intimidate a Dublin publican is frightening. Three innocent young men were shot and wounded in an indiscriminate attack on his pub in July.
Thankfully, they are recovering from their injuries. One only regained consciousness seven weeks after the attack.
Today, the publican, John Stokes, tells the Herald he will not be intimidated and will not walk away from his business.
After years of working in London, he says he is shocked at the level of criminality on the streets of the capital.
He describes the frightening pressure and threats coming from criminal elements in Dublin.
The State must use all of its resources to forcefully protect decent people caught in the crossfire of criminal gangs.
