Editorial: End all this secrecy on child deaths
FINE Gael Deputy Alan Shatter has done us all a service by bringing into the public domain the unpublished report into the death of 18-year-old Tracey Fay.
If he had not, we might still be in the dark about her death while in the care of the State, not to mention the other cases that are only now coming to light.
It is startling to learn of the number of children who have died while in State care.
No wonder there were claims of a "cover-up" when a special debate was held in the Dail.
It is a matter of huge concern to the public that reports into these deaths have not been published.
Where is the transparency and accountability in all of this?
As well as bringing reports into the public domain, we want to hear what action is being taken.
