Editorial: Candidates must tell us the truth
All politicians of every hue and persuasion can expect a cool reception on the doorsteps as the election gets underway.
The public cannot be blamed for anger over events including the bank bailout and scepticism about any political promises.
Present Government candidates can expect the roughest time of all as they canvass, but voters are likely to vent their wrath on anyone seeking their support.
To be taken any way seriously, election candidates will have to avoid gimmicky election strategies.
They will have to avoid dishing out blame for past mistakes and instead come up with well thought-through strategies to pull us out of our current economic and jobs crisis.
Don't give us false hope and false promises. We can see through all of that and it is insulting. Simply tell us the truth.
