Another day of reckoning beckons for Leaving Cert students on Monday when they finally see what, if any, college places they have been offered in the CAO's first round.
Many are worried about reports that points will have shot up this year as jobs dry up, colleges' resources are squeezed and those who can, opt to stay in education.
Students, not to mention their parents, are understandably anxious that they'll miss out on getting a place on their chosen course.
First, they should remember that there is a huge range of college courses out there, aimed at jobs that today's parents probably hadn't even heard of in their day.
And second, young people should be taught that there's usually a lot more than one route to achieving ones goals.
You mightn't get points for them but imagination, hard work and perseverence do tend to pay off.
