Editorial: All eyes on next leaders TV debate
ALL eyes will be on the second televised debate of the General Election on RTE One tonight. Voters will particularly want to see how Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny performs.
Mr Kenny declined an invitation to take part last week in a three-way leaders debate on TV3.
It will be the first time many of us will get a real opportunity to size up the probable next Taoiseach during a so far fairly lacklustre election campaign.
He will be fresh from his meeting with German chancellor Angela Merkel in Berlin to brief her on the economic situation here.
If current predictions are realised, Fine Gael may well be able to form the next government alone, or with the help of some independents.
The electorate will closely scrutinise the interaction between the five party leaders as they decide how to vote in this most crucial of general elections.
