It is fitting that the infamous e-voting machines, which have cost taxpayers €54m, have been sold for scrap. It brings to an end a 10-year fiasco, which has cost the taxpayer dearly since it emerged the expensive equipment was faulty.
The State has received just €70,000 for the machines -- this wouldn't even cover the yearly pension of some of the politicians who championed the machines.
There was no demand from the electorate for e-voting and problems quickly became apparent.
This kind of fiasco must never happen again.
