Congratulations to Bill ... and to RTE
I Between Apres Match giving the best performance ever during the semi-finals of the World Cup, and Bill O'Herlihy giving his final performance, it was one amazing weekend of sport. The actual matches were ok, but RTE managed to outshine any other broadcaster with their original approach to the punditry. Thanks for all the broadcasting brilliance Bill, and here's to the next stage of your life being filled with as much fun.
gOh Cheryl. Three months dating your cute French boyfriend, Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini, and you get married.
Personally, it would take three months for me to allow someone to know my middle name, never mind getting married.
How can anyone possibly know if they are supposed to be with someone for the rest of their lives, after just 12 weeks! 12 WEEKS. Ya gotta love young love.
bIt's kind of sad that Ian Thorpe, the Australian Olympic champion swimmer, felt he couldn't be openly gay because he didn't know if Australia "wanted its champion to be gay". After years of denial, he finally revealed all in an interview with Michael Parkinson. It is still very difficult for people in sport to be honest about their sexuality. I admire his honesty now, but it's a shame he felt he had to wait until he had retired to talk openly about being gay.
