Skellig critics need to lighten up
MAY the force be with you. Or 'more power to you' as some of us say down here in Kerry.
That's the greeting many locals in Portmagee will have offered to Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher this week.
The pair were in The Kingdom to film part of the latest Star Wars' movie on Skellig Michael, the spectacular windswept rock that lies off the coast.
The move is a huge boost for the area, of course. I wonder what the holy hermits who lived on that bleak and lonely fastness in the 6th century would make of Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia?
Nonetheless, the move has ruffled some feathers at UNESCO, and others here have moaned that it will upset the local birdlife. Look guys. It's a couple of days filming. It will raise the profile of the area and it's a bit of fun.
Really, some people are never happy...
