I I'VE always been in awe of the courage and bravery of those hardy mountaineers who brave the pitfalls and dangers in tackling the world's highest peaks. I send my deepest sympathies then to the families of the two Irish mountaineers, Colm Ennis (left) and Peter Britton, who lost their lives in Mont Blanc this week. May they rest in peace.

nIn 2012, 30pc was cut off a consultant's starting salary by then Health Minister James Reilly. It now appears that his successor Leo Varadkar is to lift that cap and restore the status quo to this elite privileged group. Why is this? Because they're worth it, I suppose. Or maybe the cost of their scrubs has rocketed. As for the rest of us, maybe we'll get a tax cut. One of these days...
