Victory looks like a Long shot for Ryan against Lilywhites

O'BYRNE CUP SF FIRST RD

KILDARE v LONGFORD

(Newbridge, Tomorrow 2.0)

HEAVEN only knows how Glenn Ryan will feel as he trundles through the front gates of St Conleth's Park -- and heads for the away dressing-room!

We asked Ryan this very question earlier this week and, typically enough, he was giving nothing away. "Sure it's a start -- no more different than any other game," the Lilywhite legend maintained. Maybe so; we're not entirely convinced.

In all likelihood, his Longford charges will struggle against a Kildare outfit that looked in surprisingly fine January fettle as they blitzed Wexford five days ago.

Willie Heffernan will, presumably, get another chance to show his worth as a converted full-forward after scoring 1-3 from play against the Slaneysiders.

ODDS: Kildare 4/11, Draw 8/1, Longford 5/2

VERDICT: Kildare

Wexford vulnerable

O'BYRNE CUP SF FIRST RD

WEXFORD v DIT

(Wexford Park, Tomorrow 2.0)

A WEAKENED Wexford got the New Year off to an underwhelming start when hammered by Kildare, 1-19 to 0-9, in a Tinryland challenge last Monday.

It may be foolish to make any wild assumptions on the above, yet the suspicion here is that Wexford look vulnerable against a DIT outfit packed with inter-county names and preparing for a serious tilt at the Sigerson Cup.

ODDS: Wexford 4/5, Draw 15/2, DIT 6/5

VERDICT: DIT

Carlow to tame Cats

O'BYRNE CUP SF FIRST RD

CARLOW v KILKENNY

(Dr Cullen Park, Tomorrow 2.0)

RIGHT, where do we start? Not a clue. Maybe we should just finish with the predictable forecast below.

ODDS: Carlow 1/20, Draw 14/1, Kilkenny 8/1

VERDICT: Carlow
