Blues debuts for Stapleton and Sutcliffe
ANTHONY DALY has named two league debutants but otherwise has gone with a heavyweight selection as Dublin seek to make a winning start in defence of their NHL crown in Galway tomorrow, writes FRANK ROCHE.
Danny Sutcliffe of St Jude's and Shane Stapleton of St Pat's Palmerstown will make their first starts in top-flight hurling, at midfield and wing-forward respectively.
This duo apart, experience is the byword as Daly names 11 of the team that started Dublin's last championship match, the All-Ireland semi-final against Tipperary. There are also recalls for David Treacy, restored to fitness after an injury-wracked couple of seasons, and corner-back Ruairi Trainor.
Dublin have been boosted by the recent return from injury of Peter Kelly at full-back and All Star Liam Rushe, who is named at full-forward. But the Division One holders are minus David O'Callaghan (pneumonia), Ross O'Carroll (broken thumb) and long-term cruciate victims Conal Keaney, Tomás Brady and Stephen Hiney, while Liam Ryan has retired.
